Starting from Hungary, Szallas grew into a regional champion in online travel and accommodation during Portfolion’s investment period, becoming an indispensable player in its home market while also evolving into a truly international group. Through a series of strategic acquisitions strategically initiated and executed together by Portfolion and a strong management team, the company expanded into three new countries — Romania, the Czech Republic, and Poland — while also generating significant revenues from international travel destinations including Croatia. Together with the acquired companies, Szallas multiplied its revenues and successfully competed with large international platforms as well as local market players. The close cooperation between Portfolion and the management team also helped the company navigate the COVID years successfully, achieving record results during a highly challenging period. Portfolion invested in Szallas in 2015 and exited the investment in 2022.
