Founded in 2017, Pepita.hu has become a major online retailer in Hungary. The storefront is the brainchild of József Dorcsinecz and Zoltán Varga, the founders behind the Szallas.hu success story. Pepita focuses on providing families a platform to purchase everything they need. Currently offering over 180.000 items from tools to children’s clothing, the company has become unavoidable in Hungarian e-commerce.
Knowing the founders of Pepita.hu from their success in the Szallas.hu project, we never doubted their commitment to a new project. Portfolion sealed the deal in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the growth of online retail. The timing was perfect, as the relatively low proportion of e-commerce in Hungary skyrocketed over 2020. Pepita.hu is an atypical investment straddling both VCC – in terms of exponential growth – and PE when looking at the industry.
